Digital Content is just like Food

We are surrounded by digital content like never before. So many channels to give our precious time to, & so many images and videos to have a look at. Moreover, we spend an awful lot of time watching and scrolling content on social media, and other streaming websites, but we never think about how does it affects our mind, and how much mind space does it really take, when we watch something, we weren’t meant to watch. And thus, digital content inclusive of ads, articles, notifications, videos, messages or any sort of content that we view on any device we are high on, has the power to persuade or dissuade our perspectives and thoughts, without any kind of awareness about whether the watchable content is authentic or not.

Let’s talk about Food first. Eating Food is essential to us. Nevertheless, as we know, our body is made of what we eat. How does it work? We simply eat Food, and our body receives all of the energy from it. A human being eats three times a day on an average basis, and sometimes, even more, when we need to build our body or whenever we feel like feeding our tastebuds something new.

It also helps us in learning about different cultures that our species can inculcate.

What it mostly does is shape our body, so in a nutshell, good Food leads to a good body, and thus, into a good mind. And the same process happens when it comes to consuming digital content.

Our eyes become more still when we come against a screen, and the screen dashes its light back, directly feeding to our mind, reprogramming our current thoughts into something we don’t even know about. So, they can be atrocious or uplifting, independent of how you control them, just like what you eat. And sometimes, we don’t even know about what are we eating when we are hungry, and the same thing happens with online content.

I guess, we are already aware of what happens to our body when we eat junk food, Eating a poor quality diet high in junk food is linked to a higher risk of obesity, depression, digestive issues, heart disease, and stroke, type two diabetes, cancer, and early death. And as you might expect, frequency matters when it comes to the impact of junk food on your health.

Fast Food isn’t really terrible, yet it is exceptionally prepared in unhygienic environments and contains a lot of starch, additive sugar, unfortunate fats, and salt (sodium). It replaces nutritious nourishments in your eating routine, & can prompt poor sustenance, unexpected frailty, and weight gain.

And the same thing goes with the content we consume. Ads and videos, that we don’t usually get to see, in our ordinary life, makes us even more concerned when we had the opportunity to view them. And honestly, we don’t have any control over what we watch, except, having the power of uninstalling the app on our phone. And scrolling is what I feel like the essence of addiction, we keep following the cycle:

We keep scrolling the screen >

We keep getting entertained and surprised >

We crave for more and more.

The content we watch takes our mind space, and it is totally subjective upon how we prioritize its relevance for the content we consume. So, for example, if we are watching movies that can inspire us for a better tomorrow, that will help, but if we are viewing memes all day or amazon ads, that might take away our focus, and most significantly, our mind-space which will lead us to nowhere. And soon the spark in us will cease to exist, our smarter self will not be any brighter.

How can we consume content in the right way?

Installing the right apps on our smartphone

Phones are powerful now, they can change our lives, and perspectives as well. I think we should use this powerful invention to make our daily lives better then they were before. Starting with the apps, there are a ton of apps available on the internet that we can use to keep our content feed as relevant as possible.

Take the next step into your future by uninstalling all of the social media apps in the first place. Silent all of the irrelevant notifications from apps by going to the notification settings, in order to cease all of the domination the apps have upon you.

This app is all about providing us the cured news, saving us from the hassle of reading too much, and keeping everything relevant in front of us, saving us a lot of time. The science, as we know, the much we have on our plate, the much we tend to forget.

The reason behind creating a separate account for watching YouTube is very simple; it is filled with a ton of videos created by diversified perspectives of people. And we do subscribe to anyone these days who just entertain us. So, what we will be doing is create another Gmail account in order to access a new youtube for us, filled with the right creators (totally depends upon our purpose of life, so for example if your life purpose is to be a minimalist, then we can subscribe to a set of subscribers that help us to achieve that motive.)

Bumble is another app for dating, networking, and making good friends. And we should use this digital product as much as we can, for our benefit. Using the dating app is your choice, but I will highly recommend using the other ones.

We are living in so many wrongly targeted advertisements. Whether it’s games or videos or anything we are digitally addicted to, they bombard us with ads. So use ad-blocker apps in order to block ads, especially from Youtube, and make sure these apps are protecting your privacy.

Spending our time learning and developing a skill is the best way that we can use it, and we can get a certificate for the same is just the cherry on the top.

Limiting Devices

Some people in this world are rich, like really rich, & they have so much money to spend. So. They buy devices for their fun, and then, some people purchase tech as technology enthusiasts as they really like to explore the same. Buying more devices isn’t harmful, but using them simultaneously for nothing is. More screens lead to more distraction and ultimately leading us to focus nowhere.

This is 2019, & content is abundant, so, consume it wisely and carefully, because the time you have on Earth, is limited.

I hope you find this article helpful and then, you can make those changes for real. If you like this article, do clap on this post, and in case if you don’t like it, let’s meet in the comment section.
