Videos have become a mandate on social media, especially for brands. They mostly describe real-time stories or visual graphics, used for attracting the relevant audience. You will observe a lot of people doing it on youtube as it is the largest platform for videos. Now, creating those quality videos requires a lot of effort, such as shooting it with a good lens camera, sound editing software, a good quality PC to run and render videos. We all have seen some good quality videos and graphics somewhere, whether it’s on youtube or Marvels or DC comics movies and the latter ones includes high-end motion VFX, that require a massive amount of time to plan and execute. Well, going there is just like going to the top of a mountain, looking downwards, and wondering how it was made. Worried about how will you do it? Don’t worry, because it will take you nowhere. I have personally met a lot of professionals who had the ability and the will to learn video editing, but they were always afraid, they were still scared of the complexities they will face while grasping the software, well guess what, its rational and its fictional.
How Did I Start?
I started with windows movie maker. Windows Movie Maker (known as Windows Live Movie Maker for the 2009 and 2011 releases) is a discontinued video editing software by Microsoft. It was a part of Windows essentials software suite and offered the ability to create and edit videos as well as to publish them on OneDrive, Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube, and Flickr. I was crazy about videos, and all of a sudden, I had the thought of creating them. Rendering them from my device (HP 250 Notebook ), I started from searching it on youtube that “how to install movie maker on windows 8 with crack” and bam, I was blown by hundreds of results, I opened the first video, and as the video was narrating the steps for me, I was doing the same on my computer, and finally I had it. I imported my first footage, which is something I don’t very remember very vividly; after then, I started checking out the transition features, one by one. It was an electrifying feeling when I saw how my one video timeline moved to the other, so smoothly with time.
After using it for more than 24 hours, I started using it every day, & as the days passed by, I was getting more clarity on how does it work.
Tip: No matter what software it is, every one of them has an endpoint, where you start from using it every day and end up being in a relationship with it.
Hit Film Express
After getting bored from windows movie maker and its predefined tools, I found a lot of flaws, just like in a perfect relationship. So, I decided to level up. And some friend of mine told me to use Hit Film Express. It is a good software to use and do high-end graphics such as putting up your logo, customized fade-in or fade-out effect, customized lower thirds, and what not. I didn’t use it for a very long period, but I did use it for a while. After using it, I feel there is so much we can do and create on our own, without any movement, without any physical effort. I was very excited and passionate about what I can design and become.
Tip: Never leave anything too soon, experience it all.
Adobe Premiere Pro
The time when I was doing my digital marketing internship; I was a kid with confidence & had the ambition to become something in my head. Before getting selected for the internship, I did attend a lot of interviews, where they asked me whether I know anything about Adobe video editing products, and I was there with my answer of a blank face. Then, I started researching about it, start watching the youtube tutorials specifically for Adobe Premiere Pro, and then I finally installed it. I was finally in love. I was using predefined software for like 1.5 years perpetually and all of a sudden, I felt blessed with PP, which has so many customizable features, changing and creating things like never before.
Tip: It is very important to go through the evolution because you will learn so many things during the course, especially you will be able to understand why predefined softwares are great but only for a short period of time.
Filmora is another fantastic software to edit your videos, and I feel high tech while I use it. So, the reason why I shifted from Adobe PP to Filmora was that I was content with PP. And then, using it for a while, I realized that it is taking so much time even to edit a simple video as you have to adjust from basics, whether it the blur or fading or transitioning from one video to the other. So, filmora was a semi-predefined software (a software where half of the features are customizable, and half of them are not). Thus, the software helps me execute those fascinating PP features to put, while usually takes a lot of time creating in PP, they are all frozen as various categorical templates. And retrieving them as templates helped in fast execution and video delivery/render. I was able to create social media videos (1:1 size) and convert them back to landscape mode (1920x1080 size) within a minute.
Tip: Using Filmora for business would be a great hack for your video editing as it will save a hell lot of time in execution.
The God: After Effects
I realized that now its time to raise the lord of video editing skills and thus, I thought, why not. Adobe After Effects is a digital visual effect, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of film making and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing, and animation. It also functions as a fundamental non-linear editor, audio editor, and media transcoder. In 2019, the program won an Academy Award for scientific and technical achievement. It is an excellent tool for telling your story, display your imagination in the form of graphics. When I first opened the software, it was like a better version of premiere pro with more advanced, additional & customizable features. I mean I wonder how Adobe sells such a complex product to a primary consumer and asks us to learn it on your own or through any other source. I was able to create cutting edge graphics, even define parameters for my text, and whatnot.
Overall, it was a remarkable journey, and I wish that editing software keeps on surprising me with more features that I can play with. Its been more than 4.5 years that I have been using video editing software and I realized that only change is permanent.
